A centennial homage to Lou Harrison, celebrated American composer and maverick of sound. Deep Red

Our cycle of Luciano Berio’s Sequenzas kicks off with Sequenza VIII for violin. Clarinet, violin and marimba all take turns leading this program. Bharat Chandra joins our string quartet in Kernis’ Perpetual Chaconne, and George Nickson joins composer Bright Sheng who will be with us to conduct his dreamscape marimba concerto, Deep Red.

Voice/Hammer

Two of Europe’s most influential and important 20th Century masters comprise this concert of Berio’s Sequenza III, featuring Sarasota's own mezzo-soprano, Thea Lobo. Boulez’s epic masterwork Le Marteau Sans Maȋtre for mixed ensemble closes out this landmark program.

Sarasota’s own contemporary music collective, ensemblenewSRQ, along with Alfstad& Contemporary and the LBK Center for the Arts: Glass Art Weekend, have joined forces to bring you a musical performance like no other - with musical works mirrored and inspired by the exquisite glass art that will be on display throughout Sarasota during the Art Glass Weekend.

This will be an intimate performance and will take place in the gallery space and among the artwork at Alfstad& Contemporary with glass art on display by Kathleen Mulcahy, and Ron Desmett.
